For years we have wanted to create an enclosed space for the sawmill. To keep it out of the weather and allow us to work regardless of the weather. We would watch videos of people who had built buildings to house their mills , with hearts in our eyes, if only. Those people typically had some large piece of equipment to hoist their log onto the mill and move stacks of milled lumber to the kiln. Alas we have only two old people and a hand crank system. In the absence of any kind of “building” we have tried a number of alternatives with varying degrees of “well that didn’t work”.
First let me pause a minute to take in the fact that I just typed, “Seed Starting Room”. Those are wonderful words. Also a fancy name for mechanical room but still, renaming it makes it seem exotic and extraordinary. Things have been going well since December. We have kept fungus gnats to a whisper by boiling water and using that to hydrate our potting soil and seed starting mixes. We only buy from inside the store which should help to keep bugs to a minimum while hurting the budget to the maximum. We have used mosquito pellets in the water and top water. Flowers were actually flowering, plants were luxurious and getting big, seed germination was high this year. Then on April 1st things took a turn.
There are times in life where you just need to get something fixed, quickly, simply and cheaply. I ran into one of those times when we were renting in MI. I swear that those cheap vertical blinds that they put in rentals are designed to break thereby giving them a reason to not give you your security deposit back. Also to remind you that living is sad. You’re left to stare at blinds with missing slats knowing you can’t replace them, sometimes you can’t even hide them with curtains. Well no more! Today we take back our happy! We get back our security deposit!
