The good and the oops

So, welcome to this Wednesday with Wolf Studios, sorry it’s been a minute since the last post been relatively busy but I have managed to get down into the shop and work on some more pens.

The most recent two I’ve done are a couple of Big Ben Cigars and I do have to say I love doing these pens, very nostalgic for myself since they were the first ones I ever turned.

I will say however turning these two in specific was decently frustrating since for both of them when I was just getting to finishing them off they chipped severely and couldn’t be mended or turned down. So that was two new blanks that needed to be procured.

chipped purple pen blank The blank chipped when turning. Just to see what it would look like IF it was turned till the chips were gone I kept going and here is the result. Notice the odd shape of the blank on the left.  See how it tapers in at the bottom and then flares back out, that is not how it is supposed to look.

This is the Dragon Blood blank being turned for a friend of mine.  Notice the large gouges around the middle of the blank.  Yep, that can’t be fixed they are to deep, to large, and to many.

I’ve managed to finish one of them so far and it came out pretty good and this week I’ll be working on the second one so fingers crossed it doesn’t chip when it’s finished.

Oh and before I forget this Wednesday with Wolf Studios I’ll do just a quick one of the last pen since I already know I’m going to be going down there either today or maybe tomorrow.
