ToteScan Inventory Software Review

totescan label software

It Rocks. You can find more information on their website here?

With the warmer weather I admit I took a break from entering more information into the inventory.  All of Sam’s stuff is done, Peter’s is a work in progress, the shop storage bins are done, the garden stuff was started and then stalled.  It got hot ya’ll.  I did not want to sit outside in the she shed and take pics and enter data.  I got the metal cabinet started and mostly filled and then stopped.  But we have been using the info that has been entered.

Sam needed some things and being able to search his bins with the app and go right to the tote with the item he needed is nice.  Once I got it out I didn’t remove it from inventory, yet, I just marked it as delivered to him.  That way if he ever asks about it I can still go to that item and tell him when it was sent.

With the garden items it’s been nice even though I haven’t been good about keeping up on it.  I took fertilizer out of the cabinet, marked it as removed with the date, then I bought another bag but left it in the garage.  I updated the app to show that there is a new bag and it is on the shelves in the garage.  Doing this does a couple of things, first we know it’s not in the cabinet anymore.  Second we know what date it was removed which also gives us a timeline for when I fertilized.  Third we know a new bag was purchased and we know where it was put.  I could make this even more useful if I also said what it was used on.  Since there are two of us actively doing things around here it’s nice to be able to have a record that we can reference to make sure something got done and not duplicate work.

Over the weekend the nest of yellow jackets, that we initially thought were bees, were angry with me.  I’m not medical emergency allergic but I can tell you that the stings have not been comfortable for about a week now.  Both of us have a live and let live attitude we need pollinators.  I let a lot of things go nuts up here because I know that the pollinators and birds all need that.  Since they decided to nest underground right next to the path from the driveway to the water hose and since they have now decided that anyone daring to cross that line must die we need to deal with it.  We both remembered that we had bought a yellow jacket trap probably a decade ago and never used it.  Gee if only we had a way to find out where that thing is, hmmmmm.  Pulled up the app on a phone, did a quick search, and there it was in the she shed cabinet.  Took all of 2 seconds rather than 2 days of searching.

It’s a great app and even though it takes time to get everything entered in and we still need to fine tune it and use it enough to know if we need to change how we enter things, it’s been great so far.  I highly recommend it if you are looking for a way of organizing.

ps See Mike I can do a shorter post.
